I started home preschool with my little girls a couple weeks ago. They are loving it and so am I! It made me realize, sadly, just how little one on one time I have spent with them. I don't want them to grow up and only have memories of mom always in the computer chair. lol I feel that I owe it to them (and myself and hubby) to truly focus my time on my family. Everywhere I look lately, I see things about treasuring every moment, especially with little ones and this just confirms my decision. :) It is a bittersweet decision, as I will miss all the wonderful people and their support, but I will be spending more precious time with my family.

Hello! It has been a long time since this blog has seen any action! Seems life is always changing and bringing in new distractions! :)

I have always loved advent calendars! I remember as a child, my mom would get the ones that you would have to open the little cardboard door and you would find a little chocolate inside. My sister and I loved those! As a fun way to count down the days to Christmas this year and in the spirit of giving, I have decided to give away a piece to a fun whimsical kit. Each day will be a new piece so come back and visit often! The pieces will only be left up a few days each. The full kit will be put up for sale mid-December if you don't want to mess with coming back each day! ;)

CT spotlight: Sam (scrappychic)

I am starting a new feature on the blog! It is always fun to get to know those around us a little better so now we are going to get to know some of my CT through a monthly CT spotlight. This month we are taking a peek into the life of Sam (scrappychic).

1. Tell everyone a little bit about yourself.
I'm a mom to 3 princesses - Mckenna, Cheyenne, and Piper and wife of 8 years to Jeff. I work full time during the day as a project manager/QA professional in a biotech company. It's not the most creative job out there, but it pays the bills and I get to interact with a lot of people. Not sure if that's a good thing or bad LOL, depends on people's moods. I grew up in Manila then San Francisco and now I live in a quiet town in the East Bay Area, but miss the city life and one day hope that we get to move back so that the kids will see what it's like to be where everything happens everywhere!

2. How long have you been scrapping? How did you start?
I've been scrapping for 5 years now, started with paper at a CM home party, then I consulted my own biz for a direct sales company. All that time I didn't get into digi because I thought it was more of an expense. But when the company I sold for started selling their own software, I went for it and never turned back. Since then I upgraded to PSE and began stashing away TONS of stuff and I can't stop!

3. Do you have any non-scrapping sources of inspiration?
I get ideas from ads on TV or magazines. I'm aspiring to be a graphic artist, so I pay lots of attention to color schemes, composition, arrangement, and try to incorporate that into my pages. I plan to get a certificate in graphic design one day after I quit procrastinating. LOL

4. When you are scrapping, what do you find yourself reaching for over and over?
Frames, flowers and ribbon. I have hundreds of them, but never seem ti have enough.

5. What other hobbies do you have outside of scrapbooking?
Is shopping a hobby? LOL I use to paint with acrylics but haven't done it in a while since I don't have the space and time. I'm pretty laid back, I like doing stuff I can do from home like watch movies and eat. I can't really think of things I do now without the kids, I like taking them out to have fun like the pool or bear factory and seeing the big smiles on their faces and how excited they get. It's so gratifying! Doesn't really sound like a hobby, does it?

Hump Day Hybrid - Note Pad Holder

Howdy all you SaraAmarie Fans out there! It's CT Member Juli posting a fun hybrid project featuring Sara's awesome kit Cari's Evening. I created this simple note pad holder using a combination of 8.5" x 11" cardstock and print outs of Sara's awesome papers and elements.

Here's the Finished Note Pad Holder Front

Left side has a plastic sleeve that holds buisness cards. Middle is the note pad. Right side has a pocket to keep little notes, coupons, etc. It would also be a great place to stick a book mark if you were making this for a gift.

Supplies:

1 sheet 8.5" x 11" colored cardstock to match your digital papers

1 sheet 8.5" x 11" white cardstock or photo paper to print your digital papers on

Your favorite SaraAmarie digital kit

A paper trimmer

Adhesive

Decorative scissors (optional)

Directions:

Place your note pad on the colored card stock and center it so that the left side folds over and becomes the front and the right side folds over a becomes the back.

Measure your front panel and the back of the right panel (becomes the inside panel that peeks out of the front) and select digital papers in the correct size using your graphics program. Place the pieces on a 8.5 x 11 canvas leaving room for margins (depending on your printers cababilities)

Here is what my sheet looked like before printing:

After you print you just trim your paper and adhere to the proper panel. I adhered a plastic business card holder to the inside front and printed additional paper and made a pocket for the back inside panel. Great creative! Make it your own!

For this month's Customer Spotlight, I wanted to introduce you to Aly321. I asked Aly a few questions so we could get to know her better. Here's what she had to say:

1) Tell everyone a little bit about yourself.
I am a mom of 3 and am definitely what you would call a scrapping addict! I love being a stay at home mom and being able to be with my family.

2) How long have you been scrapping? How did you start?
I paper scrapped for A LONG TIME, since high school. I just started digital scrapping in Januray of 2008. I am loving it! It is so nice to just save a project I am working on and there is so much verstaility.

3) What program do you use and how did you learn to use it?
I use Adobe Photoshop 7. I have learned to use it through online tutorials mostly. They are great and so helpful.

4) What is your favorite Sara Amarie product?
Definitely Western Girlie!

5) Where do you get the inspiration for your LOs?
I love to look through the Sweet Shoppe Galleries for fun ideas, and I think the more the scrap the more creative juices flow!

6) What other hobbies do you have outside of scrapbooking?
OTHER HOBBIES?!? I like to ride horses, sing, and do other crafty projects.

Happy Wednesday! Hope your week is going smoothly! Sara here to bring you a new blog activity today. Just a fun way for you to get to know me and my awesome team and for us to get to know you!

Here's how it works- I will start out with a random question, I will post answers from my team and myself. Sam: "The bathroom - really! Because it's the only place I can sit uninterrupted and look through my magazines and get ideas."

SaraAmarie: "There's beautiful red rocks all around where I live. To go out and hike, play in the creeks with my girls, or just sit and look over the landscape that goes on for miles and miles is very renewing. There is one canyon that I hold extra special- red rocks that fade into beautiful mountains with soft green rolling field on the canyon floor- makes me smile just thinking about being there!"

New Album and Flowers in the Shoppe!

Happy Saturday! Hope your weekend is going great! I have two new goodies in the store today. First I have a flower pack- Tons of Tiny Flowers and Jewels. I just love all these cute little flowers!

The other is the Basically Neutral Album which actually comes with all those cute flowers pictured above! I completely adore this album! It is so versatile that it truly can be used for any themed album! Check out this list of ideas:

*Add just a touch of elements in your wedding color and it will be perfect for wedding photos.
*Add a few soft pink or blue flowers and it would be perfect for baby photos.
*Add a few bright funky elements and it would be a fun teen or friendship album.
*Add your fav goodies and make it an all about me album.
*The list could go on and on!

Plus this one is a little different. The main quickpages are designed for Maya Road 6x6 binder album BUT the binder has a little extra room so I have also included front and back quickpages for 3 of the mini heart album pages. You can simply open up the binder and put in the extra pages (you will be left with 3 extra heart pages to add to another project!). If you don't want to add them, just leave those out. The idea of mixing shapes in one album makes it unique and fun!

Monday's VERY late challenge

Hey girls! I'm so sorry I am late posting this!! Gee I hope Sara doesn't fire me for being a space case this month! LOL

Anyway, for the challenge today!! Let's do a "by the numbers" challenge. I'll give you a list of things and you have to use that many things on your LO. There is a small hitch to this, let's make it a summer themed LO.

For our next customer spotlight I bring you Shannon (rainydays)! She's an SSD regular and her gallery is filled with her beautiful daughter. We asked Shannon a few questions to get to know her better:

1) Tell everyone a little bit about yourself:

I am 28 y/o, a mommy to one beautiful little girl! And married to husband for 3 years now we were high school sweethearts and have been together for 10 years now! I am currently working at the Credit Union here in Rosetown, Saskatchewan! Yes, I am a Canadian girl! lol!

2) How long have you been scrapping? How did you start?

I paper scrapped for 8 years ( my mom got me hooked!) before getting into digi scrapping just this year and am totally addicted!

3) What program do you use and how did you learn to use it?

I am self taught on Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0....it took me a while and I am still learning new things with it every day!

4) What is your favorite Sara Amarie product?

Her alphas are to die for!!! Seriously I have so many of them!

5) Where do you get the inspiration for your LOs?

My daughter for sure! When I started paper scrapping I did album after album of my husband and our cats! (*giggle*) When I started digi scrapping I had thousands and thousands of pictures to scrap and I am so inspired but my little miracle! I pull inspiration from day to day things as well, certain color combos from outfits or advertising...its everywhere!

6) Other hobbies outside of scrapbooking?

I love to read, Nora Roberts is one of my all time favorites! And I took a belly dancing class, yes me! LOL this past winter and I loved it!

New Game and a Freebie for You

And because of this special event, I thought it would be fun to do a guessing game on movies. Here's a list of movies that involve graduation in one way or another. Can you guess them all? Mid-week Hybrid Fun

Hey everyone! LuAnn here with some mid-week Hybrid fun! So, the other day I was surfing the net and came across some cute little "lollipop" baby shower favors. They were tealight candles glued to tongue depressors that were wrapped in plastic and tied off with a bow. They were simple and cute but more importantly, they got the creative wheels turning in my head.

Here's what I came up with: Hybrid Flower Favors

These were quick and easy to make and would be cute for a baby shower or wedding favor. I can also see a bunch of these in a flower pot for a gift for your favorite teacher or Sunday school teacher too.

For my flower, I used one of Sara's Foamie Flowers. I clipped the pink paper from Sara's Be Amused kit to the flower. I resized my flower to about 4 inches in size. I decided to add some extra color to the center to my flower - color that would show beyond the edges of the white tealight I am using. See my photo above. I then printed the flower on cardstock and cut it out. (A chipboard flower or an artificial flower is another easy option for this)

Position your flower on the tongue depressor and glue in place. I used my Xyron adhesive runner for this. I used a glue dot to hold the tealight in the clear holder and also one to adhere the tealight to the middle of the flower. For the artificial flower, I used scrapbook glue to glue the candle to the flower and then used glue dots to adhere the flower to the stem.

Finish your flower favor with a piece of white tulle or clear cellophane and ribbon. Add a leaf if desired - either a digital one or an artificial one.

I hope my little flower favor inspires you. If it does, I'd love to see what you come up with!

Jen's Scrap Challenge

Hi, Digiscrappers! Jen here, coming to you with a very late Monday Blog Challenge. Our internet has been down for two days, and I've gone through computer withdrawal! Every time I walked past my Mac, I tried just one more time to see it if I could get online, but always got the same error message. No internet. I really had no idea just how important my email, forums, and online friendships were to me until I couldn't get to them. But, WHOO_HOO, I'm back!! But my 46 hours away has gotten me to thinking...

This week I challenge you to scrap about something that's important to you, be it a person, place or thing. And while your creative juices are flowing, consider this: Highlight one thing that is important to you and include 5 reasons why it is so important (journal, list... be creative!)

When you're done, post your layout. If you use Sara's products to create your layout then you can post it in the gallery at SweetShoppeDesigns. If you aren't comfortable posting your layout at a scrapbook site, then you can just post it on your blog or at a photo hosting site such as PhotoBucket. Good morning scrappy friends! It's Jenbreeze here, bringing you a big bright spotlight on one of SaraAmarie's customers!!

As I was zipping through the galleries for some scrapping inspiration, a layout from Nikki81 called Bright Eyes jumped out at me. Into my favorites it went, and when I clicked on her gallery, I was thrilled at what I had found! This girl has the scrapping mojo, that's for sure!! Let me introduce Nikki 81 to you:

1) Tell everyone a little bit about yourself:
My name is Nikki Scott, I am 26 years old. I'm engaged to a great guy, have been together 7 years & we have a wee Boy, Callum who is nearly 3 years old. I'm also from the UK.

2) How long have you been scrapping? How did you start?
I have been digiscrapping since February of this year. I've always been interested in arty and crafty things & just love scrapping.

3) What program do you use and how did you learn to use it?
I use Photoshop CS2 & I taught myself how to use it after my original programs became very limited as to what I could do.

4) What is your favorite Sara Amarie product?
I am loving LIGHTHEARTED. I just love the paint splatter in that kit, I have used them in loads of my LO's.

5) Where do you get the inspiration for your LOs?
Mostly from other galleries. I love looking at other people's creations - there are some amazing creators out there & they inspire me.

6) Other hobbies outside of scrapbooking?
Photography.

Hi everyone, Paula here! Anyone up for a game?

I was looking at my calendar and realized that this coming Sunday is Father's day. So, I thought it would be fun to have a Father's day type of game. Well, I went looking on the net for some photos of famous dads with their famous kids and decided to make a layout for you all.

Here's what you do:

1. Take a look at the layout below. (you can click on it to make it bigger)

2. Identify all 14 dads and their kids.

3. Send an email with your answers to me at scrappinmama@mac.com

4. You have until midnight on Wednesday June 11 to get your answers in.

The person with the most correct answers will win their choice of any SaraAmarie product. In the event that there is more than one person with the correct answers, I'll put all the names in a hat and draw a name at random for the prize.

Sound easy enough? Well, to make it a little easier, I have put hints for each father and child on the bottom of the layout. So, if you get stumped, see if the hint helps jog your memory.

Hi everyone! Hope you're enjoying the Grand Opening festivities so far! Sam here bringing you a special post about a huge part of our community - our customers! Where would we be without you? :) To show our appreciation, we'll be going from gallery to gallery, on the lookout for Sara's products, so get those LOs posted! You never know who'll be featured next....it could be you!

Today we bring you Nonnie (nonnie) and her beautiful pages. We asked her a few questions to get to know her better:

1) Tell us a little bit about yourself

I am a military wife who was in the Army for a while - and now a grad student in Anthropology, – (too many Indiana Jones movies as a kid) I am a mom to 3 great kids and family is my everything. I take pictures of everything - I love to capture moments in our amazing lives!!!!

2) How long have you been scrapping? How did you start?

I am actually really new to scrapping – I started last summer when my husband deployed and my computer crashed - I thought I had lost all my pictures and it really affected me – I decided that I need to do more with them then keep them on the computer – so I discovered scrapping – I think that some tutorials from Misty Cato really got me started. :)

3) What program do you use and how did you learn to use it?

I have Photoshop CS3 and I think that I learn new things about it every day ~ I am actually signed up for a class at the local community college this fall to learn more.

4) What is your favorite Sara Amarie product?

I LOVE Natalie – I love the color scheme and I also love Tough n Girlie – It totally fits my 12 year old daughter – and I am working on some layouts with Be Amused.

5) Where do you get the inspiration for your LOs?

Everywhere – other scrappers, ads – but mostly from the pictures – they tell the story.

6) Other hobbies outside of scrapbooking?

My other passion is quilting - I have been quilting for about 10 years and LOVE it – About 2 years ago I started quilting for the families (wives, children and parents) of fallen troops – Operation Home Front Quilters – and I have vowed not to quilt for myself until every family has a quilt – It really hit home when I had to quilt for a friend – as a military wife it is one way that I can say that I understand and I am there with you.

Hello everyone! Becca here with a FUN scavenger hunt! Here is how the game works: I have taken 10 items from SaraAmarie's kits/alpha pack and numbered each 1-10. Take a look at the graphic below to see the images of what you are looking for and hunt through SaraAmarie's store to find what kit/alpha pack they belong in. Once you have all the items found then email the correct answers to luvmifrfghtr at aol dot com. I will pick a winner next Tuesday (June 3rd) who will win a fab treat from SaraAmarie!! Grand Opening Challenge - are you up to it???

Hi everyone! Happy Grand Opening!!!! LuAnn here with a challenge guaranteed to get those creative juices flowing! Are you up to it? We all hope so!

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to scrap a layout using only the items Sara has provided here in this preview.

Here are the rules of the challenge:

You can only use the papers and elements in the zip file. You can use all of them or some of them. But no other papers or elements!

No templates either LOL

You may use them as is, recolor them, stack them up, etc.

You can use actions, fonts for journaling, and alphabets for your title but nothing else!

The object is to be creative using only the bits and pieces Sara provided us with. Think outside of the box!! Get the zip file HERE

Recipe Challenge at SSD

Here is the challenge I posted at SSD for the Recipe Challenge:

I'm going to challenge you to do something you may not have thought about before. Are you attracted to all the beautiful new quickpage albums in the store (or got one free with purchase) but not ready to try a hybrid project just yet? Try out this recipe:

*Use one of the quick page specialty shaped album pages ON your digital layout. I have been having fun using these on my layouts recently! Do you not have any of the albums? Just use a bracket or large tag (or other album shape) to create the majority of your layout design on.
*Leave plenty of open space.
*Use stitching with your title.

Don't forget to add...
1 cup creativity
2 heaping spoonfuls of originality
a pinch of love
And you'll have a fantastic layout that will be as SWEET as sugar!

Make sure you post your layout in the Recipe Challenge Gallery and post a link in the SSD forum here to earn your Sweet Rewards! Remember - double points if you use a new release.
